Martin Parrs mid-80s documentary series called ‘The Last Resort’ in which he photographed a freeze frame of working class family's enjoying holiday season in New Brighton. The photos show a historic calling of what the holiday seasons were like in the past. Robert Morris in ‘The British Journal of Photography’ proceeded to say how the working class ‘Appear fat, simple, and style-less.’ This gives the sense of how the pictures taken by Martin Parr are ones of realistic happenings that paint an almost real scene in a viewer’s head.
The images taken by Martin Parr are point in time, freeze frames and that why I like them so much. They allow people to look back of them and remember what was happening around them. Everyone is showing true emotion and as a result presents a better feeling towards viewers. Moreover, nothing looks staged- because it isn’t. This means that it becomes a true reflection and isn’t an awkward shot of someone who doesn’t want their picture being taken. I think it is the real time that the photos been taken- the fact each picture has people with a story that makes me enjoys these pictures the most- they have a sense of mystery that can never be explained.
