Eugene Atget is known as one of the “fathers of street Photography.” In the late 1890’s , Paris was starting to become renewed- people were concerned about the preservation of historic districts. This is what let Atget to take pictures of the buildings and streets of Paris. These photos are what made him one of the most popular street photographers in the world.

When looking at others work during the same period- Atgets is unique and stands out against the rest. While many other photographers at the time concentrated on documentation and self-expression however, Atget transcended both of these together- he wanted to both understand and interpret what was happening through his pictures.

Atgets photos blurred the lines of storefronts and the reflections of the public, which allows a real juxtaposition to show through his photography.
