The outcomes I have taken from photographic lenses is essentially the best lens to use when taken a photo. For example, if i wanted to take a photograph of two animals fighting then i would use a long telephoto lens. This allows me to stay safe when taking the photo as well getting the best angle perspective- the background is mostly blurred and as a result the viewers will focus of the actual action taking place.
However, if i wanted to show something through a human eyed view, it would go for a standard angle (around 50mm.) This type of angle doesn't distort the photograph at all (like a wide angled lens such as a fish eye would) and when someone looks at it, will seem as if this was taken trough someones eyes. These photos are mostly used to capture expression and are taken from a rather close up position.
Finally, a wide angled lens is mostly used for taking pictures for estate agents. This lens allows a room to look bigger than it actually is, which in an estate agents case helps them to sell a property. Furthermore, this type of lens is used to show a lot of subject in just one photograph and so, a photographer will most likely use these lenses to take landscape shots on an area or city to show all it can offer.
Take a look at some of the shots I've taken through some of the lenses:
