Welcome to 2022! Unsurprisingly, it’s been a while since I’ve updated this blog- I write blog posts for my work and so I lost the motivation to write a blog in my own spare time- I'm hoping to change this! I’m not going to give myself hard goals, there’s no way I’m going to be writing a blog post every week, but getting content out there every month is the aim.
I want to update you all on my placement, how it’s going, what I’ve been doing and what it means to me. I only have around 4 months left, and the previous 8 have flown by. When I look back I’m amazed at the things that I’ve done… including starting a podcast! It's always something I've wanted to be a part of, so to have helped create, edit and promote has sort of been a dream.
To start with, I want to wish everyone a happy 2022- it feels odd to say it, especially after the past 2 years of never ending restrictions and uncertainty. I wanted to bring form and structure back to my life this year, and actually focus on the goals I’ve set myself. I hope those who’ve kept up their new year's resolutions post January are doing well! And to those who “failed”, there’s no time like the present!
For TeamKinetic, we are close to finishing our campaign aimed at Hospices, we’ve been keeping track, but I’m excited to see where our efforts has landed us, targeting specific sectors is something new for the company so it’s been really interesting to see how our customers and potential customers has reacted to our content. Writing specific blogs and social media posts, I believe, has increased engagement and awareness of our volunteer management system over the past couple of months.
Over the past few weeks as you now know, we’ve started our brand new podcast. Being involved in a podcast, in any capacity, is something I’ve always been interested in and something that has been in the back of my mind to at some point tick off. We’re four episodes in and we’ve had some really nice feedback so far. As the editor, I find it’s refreshing every week to step aside from my normal duties and spend a few hours editing together new content. I never thought that a podcast would be on the cards when I started last June, but I’m not complaining! It’s one of the best things to come out of my placement (i think) so far.
When I think about the things I’ve done over the course of my placement and how this experience has changed my perception of marketing and my future career, I think I’ll only know once I’ve finished and I’m back into the university lifestyle. I’ve noticed that some things I’ve learnt aren’t relevant to the work I’m doing here, but there are things I have learnt. For example, in university, I have completed assignments about creating a PR or Marketing campaign; the things that I’ve learnt through these assignments have really helped me structure the campaigns we’ve done here.
There’s also been elements of working within such a small team too that has really helped get the best out of me. I liked the fact that some of the projects I’m working on affect the business in the long term- my work will have some sort of lasting impact. It’s all I can really ask for.
One thing I mentioned in previous blog posts was that I wanted to work on picking up the phone and talking to our customers, potential customers and other people in the sector. I haven’t completed this, but I’ve definitely pushed myself. I recently joined a challenge session with our partners at AVM and I took part in two breakout rooms. The first one consisted of myself and a number of people who I didn’t really know- it wasn’t my greatest moment, but I believe I made up for it in the second one; the conversation was a 1-to1 talking about the challenges volunteer managers face, and what can be done to help them. I ended the call on a high note which is what I’m taking and running with.
Overall, in the past few months, I’ve developed and matured my work, alongside starting something new! The best thing someone can do is look back at the work they’ve done and just how far they’ve come in the past few months. It’s given me the determination in my professional life alongside my personal life to reach the goals I’ve set myself in 2022- hope you do the same!
I’m a bit late to the game but, here’s to 2022! (Manifesting it to be the best year of my life *fingers crossed*).
