I've now been at my placement for 3 months, which is mental. Completely mental. I believe it helps I have no sense of time, so really, for me it feels about 3 minutes. Despite all this, I have already learnt some valuable experience when it comes to marketing, and being in the workplace in general...
To start with, podcasts. I've always been a fan of podcasts, I've fallen in love with them now. I'm lucky enough that I can play something through my headphones when I'm not on a call or in a meeting, which helps me massively keep focused on what I'm working on: especially if they're podcasts I'm interested in. So my first tip for anyone who wanted to focus on a certain project or just want something the hear in the background: podcasts are the way to go!
Now I've given you my non-specific advice towards my placement, it's time for what we're all here for. My 3 month round up.
Copy Writing: Now I'm a few months in, I have found myself writing more and more blog posts (which is expected) and as I'm familiar with the blogging life- I'm really enjoying it. I have also found myself completing a lot of copywriting: both online and through emails to clients. Copy Writing really isn't something I have ever thought of when it comes to my work and I; but I believe I've been doing it and not putting a name on it until now (side note: some more advice would be name everything you're doing, even if it's just called Ted.)
For those that don't know, "copy writing consists of the words, either written or spoken, marketers use to try to get people to take an action after reading or hearing them." (HubSpot.) As a bigger scale call to action, looking back on some of my emails and media work, I have been completing copy writing for the company, and being rather successful with it too!
Email customers means talking to customers, and this is something I've gotten a lot more confident with it over the past 3 months. Calling anyone has always been something frightening to me, and I have no idea why, but more and more I've been doing what I can to talk to our customers 'face to face.' (Through Google Meet or by a phone call.) It has really started to build my confidence in knowing about the system and getting a real feel of who our customer base is. This is something I'm proud to overcome and something I hope I will take into my future (keep the confidence Brindle!)
I've recently been working on bigger projects in the company- we are only small, and so I'm really lucky in the sense that I can see all aspects of what everyone is doing, and if I'm free I' here to help. I've always been a team player and so helping out in the background of big projects is something I think I have excelled at. Hopefully, these big project go somewhere, and I've helped the team move onto bigger things in the short period of time I've been here.
I think this also shows the trust that's been built up- I am someone that a member of the team can come too when they need help, regardless of how big or little it is in the grand scheme. It has also been important for me to build up that trust, because I believe I am a trustworthy person, who wants the best for everyone. It's a moral of mine. I want to thank the team for having so much trust in me, and I'm going to do the best I can while I'm here.
Finally, I wanted to talk about how I've managed to keep up with Social Media- it is what I am here for. For the company I work for, we like to use Twitter everyday: it's our main platform of choice. So making sure we keep up with trends overall online and what is trending that day is really important.
We also take monthly analytics and look at our best performing posts on the social medias we use, this is so we can see what works and what doesn't when it comes to the content people are interested or attracted to. I think that has been instrumental in the first few months, as I have been able to see the types of content that work really well: a learning curve for me.
Overall, I have had an incredible first couple of months here on my placement, and I'm still excited to see what I'll be doing a few months down the line.
